Invitation to Connect

10 04 2012

Our stories have crossed at some point in the past and for that I’m thankful. In the launch of Syngii I’ve been reminded of how important a network of relationships is when you are starting a company. Some of these relationships are the deep life-long connections that anchor us, some are professional and involve years of built up trust and mutual respect, but others are the brief simple human transactions like a greeting in the checkout line or a kind word to the young lady serving our meal. These formal and informal connections are a source of amazing creative energy and encouragement and are the primary reason I’m sending out this request. I would like to invite you to join the Syngii community by clicking the link below. You will have a choice to subscribe to blogs only, updates & events or both. It’s also simple to unsubscribe at any time if you would like the updates to end. I’m looking forward to hearing your new stories. And I trust that you will benefit from the content our Syngii team will provide.

Simply click Subscribe Now  and you’ll be on your way to receiving our updates and valuable content.

Task Decay

10 04 2012

Are there tasks looming in front of you like vultures on a dead tree. Some have been there so long they reek of decay, yet still, there they sit. Occasionally, like a yard sale collectors item, we pull it from the shelf, dust it off, give it a little spritz of perfume and back to the shelf still uncompleted.  What is up with that?

Action items un-actionized become distracting clutter at best and dangerous and infectious slime that will ooze it’s way into every other area of your life if we do not do something about them.
Yep, this is not conjecture it’s experiential and proven facts as demonstrated by my own display of putrid incompletes lining the storage shelves of my life.  So what’s my plan?

Here it is.

Own the mess …

Build the solution…

Occupy the new reality…

Own the mess means I have to open my eyes and take stock of the situation by listing the action items weighing me down. You will be shocked by how much will drop from your list just by Owning the Mess. But don’t stop with owning the mess, I mean really, who wants to own a mess. Building a solution does not need to be complicated, but it does absolutely require you do something. So ask yourself, “What’s the biggest and baddest on my  list? Own it, and now that it’s yours, find its teeth and get to work .

Building a solution requires good intel and to get good intel you must get out of the building and to get out building requires that you move your ass. (pardon the bluntness) Inactivity is our current state because we fear looking at a problem that “might” be more than we can handle, so we don’t look and instead create “reasons” for avoidance.

Wow, sometimes telling myself what I need to hear is a little painful. Is it ever that way with you? Ask yourself, “what did I see when I got out of the building and took an honest look at the situation?” Does the beast really have teeth? If so, prioritize the canines and pull them first.

Now, don’t stop with a plan and a few tasks checked off the list. Occupy your new reality by moving in, unpacking your unique contribution and then don’t forget to send me a note with some of the cool details.

imaginatively examine the awareness…

29 03 2012

The following quote is from the book “Presence”, by authors Senge, Scharmer, Jaworski and Flowers where they explore profound change in people, organizations and society.

…the greatest scientists are distinguished not by their instruments but by their refined capacity to imaginatively examine the awareness their instruments enable.”

What do we do with what we see and learn in life and how does it assist us in forming our conclusions about reality? Are we imaginatively examining our new found awareness of the subject before us or are we simply responding to it as we have always responded to it?

Step beyond what you know for certain by cultivating awareness. See something new today, think about it, resist the impulse to immediately catalog and file and let  your mind do what it is created to do. But beware, change happens to those who walk this path.

Just a thought – “beyond the known realm”

12 03 2012

“To be inspired to think beyond the known realm of our understanding is to plunge into the chaos we call life without the ‘preserver’ we were instructed to never be without. And that my friends will change you, free you, and empower you to create a new world.”

So let’s begin with what lies just beyond the known realm of our own individual understanding?

Is that a place you want to go? Is knowing more a concern or a bother? These questions and many others may need to be considered before you enter a realm where the future is being created by your emerging actions. Think about it. Do you want to live a life that was a bother to create? Are you doing so now?  What then, will you do about it?

Is there a way to seek that which is just beyond our grasp? In athletics does not the champion claim her medal having been just beyond the grasp of the second? She was literally being just beyond and thus achieved it. Now apply the concept of being just “beyond the grasp” to our mind or further still our spirit and you see that those that can BE just beyond are the ones who can change their worlds.

But doing this requires that we move beyond the structured or frame work for thinking that we have systematically assembled, with of course the help from a wide variety of sources. To move beyond something that was built literally every waking and most of the sleeping moments of our lives has two serious consequences. The first is quite obvious. Picture your self stepping off the bridge at it’s highest point. At the first step you are beyond the support of the structure of the bridge and thus instantly “free” to respond to the much deeper reality called gravity. With this being manifest so dramatically in the material are we safe to assume that it would be similar in the non-material?

I have stepped off of internal bridges or structures of thought and found the most remarkable experience of non-falling. It is clearly beyond the grasp but is not at all what I expected. Ah ha, it is clear that expectations are part of the current structure so why would what we expected apply to that which is just beyond our current grasp.

This will require further thought… please feel free to share your own.

Been Alone With Your Thought Lately?

9 02 2012

Here’s a post from the middle of the night.

It’s 4am on a Thursday morning. I just read a facebook post by a friend (April) who wrote at about midnight last night.

to which I replied:

… which I promptly did…

The more I thought about this the more questions came to mind. Here are a few of them.

What does it feel like for you when you are alone with your thoughts?

Do they run wild and free, undirected and spontaneous?  Are they darting here and there with inquisitive intensity? Or are they perhaps more somber and staid as if muffled by the stress of life?

Perhaps it’s fear that plagues the quite place of your mind. It may be fear from an unknown origin or one with a name that we can never forget. Regardless the origin, it creeps from the shadows of our quiet places and infects our thoughts with doubt and uncertainty. This thing that causes such fear is little more than a thought creature the ancient ones called “whadif”.  It’s known to all of us at some point or points in our journey and gains or diminishes in direct proportion to the care we provide it. Feed the beast by asking “what if” and it will devour the peace that was meant to dwell in those quiet places of the soul.

But all is not lost because if you are willing to own your story you can regain the quiet places of your heart and the fear of a “whadif” slinking in the shadows is dissolved.

That is the end of my rambling middle of the night thought. Be blessed today and live.
